250 in a flash
250, quarter of a millennium, let freedom ring
Seems impressive, memorable, a reason to sing
The national anthem, loud and proud and true
A lot to be thankful for living in red, white, and blue
But the founding fathers roll in their graves, waiting
For us to achieve what they decreed, it’s aggravating
To think we’d be complacent with the status quo
So many trampled in the shuffle of the daily to-and-fro
We’re all moving, moving, moving, without direction
And every two years it’s another election
Billions spent on filling those right and left seats
Money that could allow many folks to simply eat
This issue isn’t restricted to our great nation
It’s plagued humankind for all of creation
Let’s work together to find better solutions
While we celebrate the birth of our great revolution
Life flashes forward in the blink of an eye
While we’re still here, let’s continue to try
And help each other up, all for one and one for all
250 is big, but even the biggest can still fall
My poem is simple yet hopeful, and now that it’s done
Whatever you are, keep looking for ways to be a good one
