Be the Tree
You plant the roots of your dreams in life’s fertile soil
Anything is possible, you shout, I can totally do this
For years, you tend to those ambitions, nurturing them along
Yet behind your optimistic façade, seeds of doubt fly in and land
These insidious weeds sprout, spread, multiply
Seeking to steal the moisture from your goals, to block out your sunshine
These doubts exist to test your resolve, to challenge your readiness
Each time you clear them away, they return, even stronger
Will you give in and allow these invasive thoughts to choke you out
Or will you look to others who have ploughed that same difficult row
Who, when life’s weeds moved in to cast their ominous shade over them
Had the nerve to hold steady and shoot their own roots even deeper
To reach that well of fortitude where their dreams first germinated
For in the end, they realized those repressing thoughts meant less
Than how they chose to cling tight and hold on, to believe they could grow
Learning from their example, you find the place where your own strength lives
And defiantly stretch your branches toward the sun
Whatever you are, keep growing and be a good one!
