Listen Up!
Hey, there, it’s me. No, not the author of this blog, It’s me, your Inner Voice. You know, the one you ignore way too often? Oh, you do remember me, good, very good.
Anyway, after hearing my story, Mr. Duford was nice enough to give me this forum to connect with you today. Or maybe he didn’t want to deal with me either?
Oh well, on we go with my important private service announcement: Listen up!
Yeah, you heard me this time. I didn’t stutter or beat around the bush. You need to listen to me, your Inner Voice, more often. And, no, not the voices in your head, those dudes are a bit out there, if you know what I mean. I’m the other voice inside your brain, hidden beneath those layers of rejection, self-doubts, embarrassment, and procrastination. While those things might seem to you like comforting blankets tucking me into an insulating cocoon from fear―that intimidating jerk―trust me, you’d feel different from my perspective. I mean, fear has always been around, just like me, so you and I need to trust one another. Strength in numbers, woo hoo!
And I know it’s not always easy to hear me over all the distractions and noise of daily living, but I’m begging you to try to find a quiet place and peel those layers off and really tune in. Sure, I’m not perfect, and maybe my ideas haven’t always worked, but that’s no reason to give up trying. I learn things as I go through this life, just like you, since, I am you. The real you. Okay, okay, I know I led you astray with that whole concert violinist dream, but you did get good enough to squeak out the happy birthday song, right? C’mon, it wasn’t that bad!
All I’m saying is, don’t shut me out, and try not to let fear keep me locked into that so-called safe place of inaction. There’s a reason I’m here, just like there’s a reason you’re here. We need to shine and do that thing we’re meant to do in this world. I mean, what are you/we waiting for? Let’s get out there and make a difference, for us and for others. Start small, and see where things go, but keep those bigger dream blueprints handy, because, once you test the waters and see how good it feels to open yourself up to the possibilities, you’re going to be an unstoppable force for goodness. You can do this! I believe in you, since again, I am you 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to me today. I hope this can be a springboard to more frequent and productive conversations moving forward. By the way, Team Regret sends their regards, but we don’t have time for their endless chatter, am I right? OMG, those guys drone on and on for years! Let’s get this done, and keep them quiet.
Oh, and before I get you back to your day, Mr. D wants me to tell you: whatever you are, be a good one.
