Don’t Fool Around!

Happy April Fool’s Day! No, I’m not going to call you and ask if you have Prince Albert in a can, or if your refrigerator is running. Today’s title is meant to implore you not to fall for one of the biggest pranks in recorded history: fooling yourself into believing you have unlimited time.

I don’t mean for that last sentence to bum you out, but rather to motivate you, to light a fire, to help you look at your life through a different lens, to change your perspective.

With that in mind, here we go:

The good old days

  • Yes, we all have a memory of a simpler time in our lives, usually in our formative years.

  • The funny thing is, those years may have felt anything but simple back then, but in retrospect, we’d go back there in heartbeat.

  • What we fail to realize is that any day can be a good old day. Heck, we can’t go back in time (yet), so we need to make each day the best it can be for ourselves and especially for others.

  • Don’t take those good days for granted! When you feel like you’re experiencing one, embrace each moment and hold on.

Find A Reason

  • Look, there are any number of ways life can knock you down. It’s kind of the gig we signed on for when we took those first shuddering breaths after entering this world. I feel the key to surviving and thriving in this existence is to concentrate on the many positive ways to make this life mean something.

    • Look for joy. It comes in an endless variety, from simple to awe-inspiring.

    • Help others in need. You’ll make yourself and others feel so much better.

    • Reach for our goals. Sure, we want to help others, but it doesn’t mean we can’t also create and follow our own paths too.

    • Keep ourselves open for positivity. We miss so much when we’re looking down. It’s amazing how things can change for the better when we keep an open mind and heart.

Live Every Day

  • You may not know how much time you have left in this mortal realm and that’s okay. What’s important is how you choose to approach each day.

  • Why worry about the shortness of time? I mean, other than taking better care of ourselves, we really have little to say about it, right?

  • Let’s decide to take each day on its own merits and live it as full as we can.

    • I’m talking about falling exhausted into bed each night knowing we did our best to make a difference.

Too late

  • You think you’re too old to chase your passions? Well, I could list of a bunch of folks who pursued theirs in their advanced years, but I’ll keep it simple: It’s never too late, until it is.

    • Think about that. As long as there’s a chance, regardless of how slim, go for it!

      • Or do I need to break out the New England Patriot’s amazing comeback victory in Superbowl LI? No, didn’t think so.

      • Get moving, people! 😉

Thank you all for tuning in today. I hope I’ve given you plenty to think about. If you’d like to read more of my thoughts on life, please go to Amazon and check out Carry On, the inspirational booklet I published last year. It’s a thoughtful, humorous, and at times off-kilter way to see life, loss, recovery, and hope in a new way. Heck, it’s only $4.99 on Kindle and $7.99 for paperback. You can’t even buy a sandwich for that! And you’ll be able to digest my words for far longer, without risk of heartburn.

Hey, until next week, whatever you are, quit fooling around and be a good one!
