Drawing Blanks

Ah Papyrus, that amazing ancient invention,

Created to help us write down our intentions.

From the Quran, our Constitution, and the Holy Bible,

To contracts protecting so many folks from becoming liable.

This thin little sheet, more fragile than a flower,

Harbors within it almost unlimited power.

It has been known to shape the mood of an entire nation,

Yet can also ruin relationships and bring down corporations.

I like the feel of paper as I turn each delicate page,

While reading a story written by some talented sage.

Or perusing various articles in a magazine,

Those words revealed with a wonderful sheen.

I’ve enjoyed the Sunday comics and the local sports section,

As well as heartbreaking tales told with great affection.

So why the odd blog title I can hear you ask of me,

Well, paper is also challenging, as you’ll all soon see.

That thin blank sheet, with its 94-brightness rating,

Mocks me at times, which can be quite frustrating.

Writer’s block is real for folks like me writing for a living,

This nonfatal disease is at times brutal and unforgiving.

Yet with age comes perspective to help me battle this affliction,

Ideas flow more freely, since real life is often stranger than fiction.

So, I’ll keep typing and offering those words for your inspection,

Hoping that my writing allows you all to pause for some reflection.

I guess that’s all I wanted to say, and now that I’m done,

Whatever you are, please keep reading and be a good one!

Until next week, my friends.

-Dave
