Heads up!

Happiest of Hump Days to you, folks. At times in my life, I have been accused of not being observant enough, though I like to think I’m finally flipping that script in my advanced years. To prove my point, check out some of the issues I’ve pondered of late.

Toe-may-toe or Toe-mah-toe?

Actually, this is less about that pronunciation argument than it is about brand names.

I recently discovered far more brands of the round red fruit than should be necessary to create the perfect BLT, so I decided to slice it down to a Magnificent Seven, each layered in with a corresponding day of the week.

Monday

Grown True Organic. ‘cause you ate so much junk food on the weekend, you need to reset.

Tuesday

Maverick Mix. Okay, Monday is over and you’re feeling cocky. This choice serves notice to your boss that you’re in it to win it, baby.

Wednesday

Sugar Bombs. Ugh, is it Friday yet? These sweet little cherries might be enough to tide you over until Thursday. Maybe.

Thursday

Glory. Aw, yeah, you’re starting to feel the weekend vibe calling to you. Glorious.

Friday

Sinfully Sweet. Finally! Friday is here and it’s time to get into some trouble. I’m not talking the kind that requires bail money, but a little mischief can’t hurt, right?

Saturday

Wild Wonders. The virtue of crazy Saturday nights has been sung about so often, there must be something to turning it loose and letting consequences be damned. Woo hoo!

Sunday

Heavenly Trio. Phew, where is the Pepto-Bismal? It’s time to pay the piper and hope the prayers we send up are not to the “Porcelain God.”

Mobile multitasking

Mobile devices, am I right? They sure come in handy. But maybe too handy?

  • Cell phones, laptops, and tablets are amazing machines, but when was the last time you watched a show or movie without also checking your phone or working on one of the other devices at the same time?

  • Where did the magic of completely immersing ourselves in what we’re watching go?

  • It’s not all negative. After all, these devices allow us to check on some facts for the shows we watch also.

  • How about you? Do you have a no-device rule at your house during certain situations, or do you fully embrace the art of multitasking?

<disclaimer: I wrote today’s blog post while watching The Voice 😊>

Is it cold in here, or is it just me?

There are some in the northeast who play a fun game called, “Put on a sweater if you’re cold.”

These folks take great pride in seeing how far into the fall season they can go before turning the furnace on. Then, as spring draws near, they stand by the off switch daily, wondering when they can shut the furnace down without the pipes freezing.

While some folks cringe when the furnace kicks on, I feel grateful to have heat in my home.

I mean, why not be comfortable? Think about it. Over the course of a year, how much more does it cost to not see your breath insideyour home? Crank that dial. You’re worth it!

Nice Dimple!

Have you ever noticed waiting room chairs? You know the kind, with those squeaky vinyl seats? Well, I have, and this is what I observed.

They usually have a well-worn, butt-shaped impression upon their pliable surface. Let’s call it a dimple. Naturally, this stirred my vivid imagination.

  • Does the size of the impression correlate to the size of the person?

  • If the dimple is more pronounced, does that mean the person who created it was more anxious?

  • And if it’s less pronounced, was that person feeling relaxed?

  • Whose butt was there before mine?

  • Wait. How big is my dimple?

    • First impressions are important.

    • How will I be judged when I stand up?

    • Um, maybe next time I’ll stand in the corner or something.

“Is there a David?”

“Gaaah! That’s not my dimple! I mean, I’m here!”

And there you have another round of my unique perspectives, everyone. I hope I have entertained you and also given you inspiration to conduct your own observations. If so, you are welcome! Hey, and if not, don’t give up on me. There’s always next week 😊

Until then, whatever you are, keep your eyes open and be a good one!

-Dave
