Sensational
Happy Earth Day, everyone! Today’s post may not pertain directly to Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing, but you’re all at least reading this blog electronically, rather than printing it out on paper, so give yourself a little pat on the back. After all, it has been said that it’s the little things in life that truly matter.
On that note, I’d like to share my list of little sensations that make life a bit better for me.
Here we go:
Eating dessert on a dessert plate, with a dessert fork.
I don’t know why, but this combo makes things taste better.
Oh, and taking little bites to make the pleasure last longer!
Smelling chocolate before letting it melt in my mouth.
It’s like double-dipping for my brain. Ah, sweet dopamine.
Hearing a metal spoon stir coffee in a ceramic mug.
This one harkens back to some pleasant childhood memories, watching adults slowly stir their coffee while reading the newspaper, or in pleasant conversation at a diner. It represents the calm environment when we have the time to luxuriate over a warm mug of our favorite beverage.
Clicking on a desk lamp.
The little twist it takes to snap on that simple bare bulb on my gooseneck lamp and light up my wooden writing desk is like a fresh start to a world of possibilities.
Feeling a cool breeze in the summer.
I remember baling hay at our small family farm, and that sweet sensation of standing in the back of the truck on the way to the barn, letting the breeze refresh my overheated skin.
Scratching behind my dog’s ears.
A wonderful bonding experience for both of us.
Scratching a lottery ticket.
Another double-dipper. You hear the scratching as you feel the waxy surface being scraped off of that little rectangle of cardboard, slowly revealing what could be a fortune…or maybe not. At least the anticipation is fun, right?
Massaging my wife’s back.
Feeling her sore muscles giving way to my manipulations brings me happiness, knowing I’m helping ease her tension.
I could go on about all our physical touch things, but this is a family post 😉
Phew! Is it getting warm in here? I’ll stop before I get into trouble, but I hope sharing my list spurs you to share some of your favorite sensory experiences. Go ahead and use the comment box below, or email me, so I can enjoy that sensation of clicking on the mouse 😊
Hey, and whatever you are, do it with feeling and be a good one!
