Spring Break

Okay, I know it’s not quite spring yet, but we are approaching that annual ritual college students have waited for, beach resorts count on, and parents might just dread a little. Yes, it’s time for a break. Even though I no longer roam the halls of higher learning, I’m also going to relax a little this week and ask you to help me do my job.

Let’s get the conversations rolling, shall we? I’d love for us to learn more about each other, whether you leave a comment in the section below or email me at nhwriter@aol.com or nhwriter1966@gmail.com. Get busy, people! My frozen tropical drink is melting fast, and I’ll need to reapply the sunscreen before long.

  • What is your favorite college memory?

    • I have a few pleasant memories, like sharing a class with my daughter-in-law and getting to kiss my professor-wife in the hall, but my favorite is having an arm wrapped around my mom’s shoulder to have our picture taken at graduation. It DID take me 28 years, after all!

  • Were you involved in college sports, band, newspaper, politics, etc…?

    • I was never particularly athletic, lol. And going to college while working fulltime didn’t leave me much extracurricular time for joining in on any of the aforementioned activities.

  • If you never went to college, do you wish you had?

    • BTW: it’s never too late, just sayin’. If I can do it, you can too!

  • Did you take any memorable spring break trips?

    • I was never able to take part in that, and I wish I’d gone to college right out of high school to have the experience as a young person.

  • If your kids went to college out-of-state, did you welcome their return home on spring break, or dread it? You can be honest. What are the chances they read my blog anyway, right? 😉

    • I do remember my stepdaughters coming home to visit and it was always nice to have their youthful energy around.

  • Is there any advice you received from a college professor that you followed or wish you had?

    • My first college stint was in my mid-twenties, for a degree in Communications. My professors in Radio, Television, Media Writing, and English Composition all saw something in me and mentioned that I should pursue things further. At the same time, I was told by some how difficult it was to be successful in those careers, so I chose to move away from that dream and return to the retail world. In retrospect, I wish I’d listened. Ah, well. Can’t go back, so let’s move forward!

Speaking of, it’s time for me to get back to the ol’ lounge chair and freshen my drink. I hope I’ve brought up some pleasant memories for you and/or have inspired you to continue your own learning journey. Each day is full of opportunities, if we leave ourselves open to discovering them. 😊

Until next week, whatever you are, give it that old college try and be a good one!

-Dave
