Time Flies!
Holy crap! How can it be six months’ worth of blog content already? I know, I know, some of you are saying, “Ugh, can you believe we’ve tolerated six months of this crap?” And yet, I remain undeterred, bahahahahaha!
To celebrate this momentous half-versary, I’m going to ask you to write today’s post, my fine friends. I’m not being lazy or ducking my responsibility, honest 😊 In living up to my relentless Pursuit of Perspective, I want you to share something with me and the rest of the class: what is your purpose?
No, this is not the same subject as Do Your Job from the June 11th post. That one asked you to keep a positive attitude regardless of your occupation. Today, I want you to dive deep and ask yourself what your purpose is, since I feel we should all aspire to have one. Maybe you already know, or have suspicions. Perhaps you’ve never thought of it before, since you’ve been keeping your head down and doing your aforementioned job. Regardless, I feel it’s important for all of us to look inward, since it can make a huge difference in how we see ourselves and how we interact with our world.
Okay, I’ll get things started, and let you know what I feel my purpose is. Maybe that can help spur you to share yours. See? Still doing my job, here, people!
I did provide a hint about my purpose in Carry On, my inspirational pocket companion book, where I stated I’ve always felt I was destined to do something great in this world, like saving Princess Leia from her detention cell on the Death Star, but I’ll expand upon that today.
My original thought about doing something great took root in my teens, and back then, I really did think it was going to be a huge occasion, straight out of a movie. As I’ve matured, grown older, and experienced life, I have come to realize my purpose is to bring more light into this world. My preferred method for accomplishing this is through writing, but it extends beyond that into all my interactions with the world around me, and it all adds up to much more than any movie scene could ever live up to. Whether I’m sharing a story I’ve written, making someone smile or laugh, helping someone through a rough moment, or hammering home positive messages through this weekly blog, I’m doing my best to make this world a better place to live in.
And I’m not being narcissistic or stating that I am perfect. Trust me, I have plenty of self-doubt and low self-esteem, but when it comes to interacting with people, I do try to be upbeat, considerate, and pleasant, since we’re all dealing with crap, you know? And that goes for most every situation, from calling the doctor’s office to make an appointment, to greeting the checkout person at the grocery store, to cracking “dad” jokes with my grandkids. If I can make someone smile or laugh, that gets them feeling better, and maybe their lightness extends to others in their lives, even if it’s for a brief moment. Before you know it, we’ve got a chain reaction of positivity being created, link-by-link. How’s that for a purpose?!
Okay, now it’s your turn!
I want to read your thoughts on what you feel your purpose is, or what you’d like it to be. And don’t get all wrapped around the axle worrying if your purpose is important enough to share, or if it’s even possible. It all matters, and It’s never too late, until it is. Thinking about your purpose is the first crucial step toward making it a reality. So, let me have it, people!
Happy half-versary, folks. Now, get on out there, and whatever you are, be a good one…with purpose!
