Layers of Love
Life is no cakewalk. Not sure if anyone has ever coined that phrase, but there it is.
We go through the challenging motions, do what we need to do for ourselves, for our families and our friends.
But life is also amazing, intriguing, even breathtaking; a marvel worth pondering.
I turned one of those milestone ages this past Sunday.
Yes, I’m officially a Sexy Sexagenarian now, and that requires some ponderance of its own.
Six decades of living, hurting, learning, crying, laughing, failing, succeeding, dreaming, and loving.
Each of those sixty years has stood upon the back of the 365 days before it to build the man I am today.
Am I a wise oldtimer now? With the turning of the clock, was amazing knowledge bestowed upon me?
Of course not. That’s not how this game is played. We have rules here. There are no cheat sheets.
No, I must continue my journey of discovery, as life stacks more layers upon me, shaping me as it sees fit.
All the ingredients are there, mixed together and baking on 350 degrees for an unspecified period of time.
When my life is finally assembled, it will not be flawless.
I may list to one side or sag a bit in the middle, and that’s okay.
Love is the frosting between each of those layers.
It’s the magic transforming those imperfections.
And damn, is it ever sweet.
Whatever you are, lick the spoon and be a good one!
